Finding Our Feet: South Yorkshire New Arrivals Stepping Out

Finding Our Feet is a project to encourage refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants in South Yorkshire to visit places in the nearby countryside that can be reached by bus or train.

Many of the activities will take place in the Peak District, a beautiful area to the west of Sheffield.

Whether you are a group working with refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants, or an individual wanting to participate in a walk, we hope you will find all the information you need here.

If you want to come on one of the walks, look at the information             and register

If you are a group who wants to plan your own visit, you can read the information            and look at the calendar of trips             to make sure other groups aren't planning to visit the same place on the same day (as this might mean that buses get too full, especially if groups will be taking pushchairs) and make sure that you please fill in the forms            after your trip.  As soon as you have decided on a destination for your trip, please let us know so we can put the date on the calendar!

Many partners are working with us on this project, including the Peak District National Park Authority, the National Trust, the Moorland Discovery Centre, the British Mountaineering Council, Chatsworth Education team and individual Peak Park Rangers and volunteers.  Thanks to all of them, as well as to our funders.

13 different conversation clubs and other groups and organisations working with refugees and asylum seekers in South Yorkshire are also participating.  If you are a group who is not already involved and would like to organise your own trip into the countryside but need some ideas and money for bus or train fares, please get in touch.

For more information about the project, please contact naomi.cohen@nrcentre.org.uk or phone      07752 332 866 and leave a message.
